MANILA, Philippines – Precious Lara Quigaman’s revealing red gown at the recent Bb. Pilipinas beauty pageant caused quite a stir among local fashionistas and the fashion conscious.
The gown, created by renowned fashion designer and recent toast of "America's Next Top Model" Michael Cinco, is described on the Missosology website as "a fluid metallic and shimmer scarlet red chiffon with 50’s inspired swarovskied boy-short panty suit."
So siguro nabigla lang sila pero I don’t think it’s bastos,” explained the 2005 Miss International beauty titlist on “Showbiz News Ngaon,” April 14.
“SNN” showed a Twitter post that didn’t approve of Quigaman’s choice of gown.
“Lara’s shown bikini in Bb. Pilipinas last Saturday was not pleasing to our eyes. She should’ve worn other dress,” tweeted jaypalomares to snnofficial.
Quigaman, who hosted the event together with fellow beauty queen Miriam Quiambao, felt the gown was decent enough for her taste, saying that if there was anything negative about it, "hindi ko siya susuotin...”
She shared that she immediately fell in love with it when Cinco showed her the gown. But even then, she asked around for opinion before wearing it and got an overwhelming approval.
“Tinanong ko rin ‘yung mga tao beforehand kung okay lang ba and they said it was okay.
The former beauty queen rationalized that she did not wear the gown to steal the scene in the pageant. It didn’t occur to her that wearing it would grab that much attention.
As for the resulting mixed reaction, she feels that everyone is entitled to an opinion and she understands it.
If you don’t have anything nice to say ‘wag na lang magsalita. Pero siyempre hindi natin sila mapipigilan,” she said.
